Project Designer - Interior Design

Role summary

The Project Designer - Interior Design is a key member of the interiors team, responsible for driving the design development and execution of interior projects from concept through to tender. Working closely with the Interior Design Director and Lead Designers, this role combines creative storytelling with solid technical coordination to deliver exceptional hospitality and luxury interior environments that meet or exceed client expectations.

What you'll do

Project management

  • Maintain a detailed understanding of project scope, timeline and deliverables as defined in the client contract.
  • Collaborate with Lead Designers and Project Managers to refine processes and ensure projects are delivered on time and in line with client expectations.
  • Work with the internal project team to track progress and ensure design tasks are completed within agreed deadlines.
  • Engage with architects, engineers, contractors and consultants to ensure interior solutions are fully integrated with the wider project strategy.
  • Lead smallscale projects, or defined portions of larger schemes, with a small team of designers (Junior Designers / Designer I / Designer II).

Team leadership

  • Lead a small team of junior designers on assigned areas of a project, providing daytoday direction and support.
  • Ensure the design intent is cohesive across all tasks developed by the team.
  • Monitor quality, timing and completeness of assigned design work, aligned with project goals and standards.
  • Foster a positive, proactive and communicative team environment.

Design excellence

  • Lead the junior design team in creating and developing unique, tailored and curated storylines for each project.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of designexcellence initiatives that elevate project quality and reinforce studio design values.
  • Develop sketches and inspirational imagery to support the design narrative and storytelling process.
  • Contribute to all stages of the design process, from concept through to tender documentation, as needed.
  • Work with the project team to conceptualise and refine design strategies that respond to program, budget and operational requirements.
  • Assist in developing design concepts, presentation materials and documentation, applying both creative and technical skills.
  • Produce and refine 3D models or sketches to clearly communicate design intent.
  • Lead the development of detailed, layered physical sample boards and coordinate approvals with Lead Designers.

Technical quality & documentation

  • Lead the production and review of visual material such as 2D/3D renderings, and coordinate with visualisers on final output.
  • Ensure graphic quality and content integrity across all presentations and deliverables.
  • Lead the preparation of design documentation, including drawings, specifications and material boards.
  • Review production drawings (plans, elevations, details) and specifications (finishes, sanitaryware, electrical appliances, hardware, FF&E), redlining for the team to implement.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete and regularly reviewed with Lead Designers.
  • Show proficiency with online specification platforms and support specification package development by advising on appropriate suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants (artwork, signage, lighting, etc.) to ensure their proposals align with overall design direction.

Quality assurance

  • Review and refine presentation materials to maintain graphic quality, accuracy and alignment with design intent.
  • Participate in design reviews and QA/QC processes, providing clear feedback and helping implement corrective actions where needed.

Industry engagement & strategic initiatives

  • Stay current with emerging trends, innovations and best practices in interior design.
  • Attend relevant events (conferences, forums, trade fairs) and share key insights with the wider team.
  • Take an active role in at least one annual studiowide strategic initiative, helping track progress and report outcomes.

Site supervision & personal development

  • Begin reviewing shop drawings, mockups, material submissions and finish samples for smallscale projects to ensure consistency with design intent.
  • Support the development of solutions for onsite issues, escalating to senior team members as needed.
  • Assist in responding to contractor queries during tender and construction phases.
  • Take ownership of personal growth through training, setting goals and seeking feedback to enhance performance.

Who you are

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited institution.
  • 5-8 years of professional interior design experience, ideally with hospitality or highend residential / luxury project exposure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic navigation skills in Revit (proficiency preferred but not mandatory).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D modelling software (SketchUp, Rhino).
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Strong freehand drawing and sketching abilities.
  • Extensive understanding of FF&E selection and specification, including furniture, lighting and accessories.
  • Extensive understanding of interior finishes, sanitaryware and hardware, and how they support design and operational requirements.
  • Clear understanding of deliverables at each project stage.

Compensation & benefits

  • Salary range: 70,000-85,000 USD (depending on experience).
  • PTO: 15 vacation days, 5 sick days, 2 personal days, plus up to 10 paid holidays per year.
  • Benefits: 100% employer paid employee portion of health, dental, basic life and long term disability (LTD) insurance.
  • 401(k): Company match of 3% plus 50% of the next 2% the employee contributes (maximum 4% employer match).
