Interior Design Technical Senior Designer - Luxury Hospitality & Branded Residential
Position Summary
The ID Technical Senior Designer is responsible for leading the technical design and documentation of luxury hospitality and branded residential projects from Detailed Design through Construction Administration. The role ensures that the design intent is accurately translated into comprehensive construction documentation while maintaining the highest standards of quality, coordination, buildability, and compliance with client, operator, and regulatory requirements.
Working closely with the Design Director, Project Director, FF&E team, consultants, and contractors, the Technical Senior Designer leads the technical delivery of assigned projects and mentors junior technical staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Design Leadership
- Lead the technical development and coordination of assigned luxury hospitality and branded residential projects.
- Translate design concepts into coordinated construction documentation.
- Develop detailed technical solutions that maintain design intent while ensuring buildability and compliance.
- Review and resolve complex technical design challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure documentation aligns with operator brand standards and project requirements.
Project Delivery
- Lead the preparation of complete Interior Design drawing packages through all project stages, including: Design Development (DD), Tender Documentation, Construction Documentation (CD), Construction Administration (CA)
- Manage technical deliverables to meet project programmes and milestones.
- Monitor drawing progress and coordinate internal technical resources.
- Ensure deliverables meet quality, programme, and budget objectives.
Technical Documentation
- Produce and review high-quality technical drawing packages including: General Arrangements, Floor Plans, Reflected Ceiling Plans, Elevations, Sections, Joinery Details, Interior Details, Enlarged Plans, Door Schedules, Finish Plans, Typical Room Details, Room Data Sheets, and Coordination Drawings
- Review consultant information for integration into the design documentation.
- Maintain drawing accuracy, consistency, and compliance with office standards.
Consultant Coordination
- Coordinate technical information with: Architects, MEP Engineers, Structural Engineers, Lighting Designers, Kitchen Consultants, AV Consultants, Acoustic Consultants, Specialist Vendors
- Resolve technical coordination issues proactively.
- Attend multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
Construction Administration
- Review contractor shop drawings and material submissions.
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Participate in site inspections and progress meetings.
- Review mock-up rooms and sample installations.
- Identify technical issues and provide practical design solutions.
- Support project close-out and snagging activities.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all technical documentation complies with: Client requirements, Operator brand standards, Local authority regulations, Building codes, Accessibility standards, Life safety requirements, Company QA/QC procedures
- Conduct internal drawing reviews before issue.
- Maintain documentation quality across all project stages.
Team Leadership & Mentoring
- Provide day-to-day guidance to Intermediate and Junior Technical Designers.
- Review technical work for accuracy and quality.
- Share technical knowledge and best practices.
- Assist in developing technical standards and documentation procedures.
- Support training and professional development within the technical team.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Attend client presentations and technical workshops.
- Present technical design solutions clearly and professionally.
- Coordinate directly with clients, operators, consultants, and contractors on technical matters.
- Maintain strong working relationships throughout project delivery.
Qualifications & ExperienceEducation
- Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 8-12 years of professional experience in Interior Design.
- Minimum 5 years' experience delivering luxury hospitality and/or branded residential projects.
- Proven experience in construction documentation and technical detailing.
- Experience working with international hotel operators and luxury brands is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Strong working knowledge of Revit (preferred).
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of BIM workflows and document management systems is an advantage.
- Excellent understanding of construction methodologies, materials, detailing, and coordination.
