Role Overview

The Design Director will be responsible for leading and overseeing all phases of assigned projects (Phase 1 to Phase 4). This role requires strong leadership in managing a team of Designers, FF&E Designers, Coordinators, and Draftsmen, ensuring successful execution in line with contract documents, schedules, and budgets.

The ideal candidate will have the expertise and confidence to engage effectively with clients, consultants, vendors, and contractors. They should embody professionalism, possess strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrate leadership that inspires both team development and project excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with the design team to produce high-quality work, ensuring detailing aligns with client requirements, contract documents, and project budgets.
• Oversee and review design output from Designers and Draftsmen to guarantee compliance with contract, schedule, and budget.
• Assist in project coordination activities, including scheduling, manpower planning, and documentation submissions.
• Provide updates on project developments and ensure effective communication within the team.
• Coordinate, delegate, provide feedback, and mentor subordinates on their work and professional growth, including problem-solving.
• Review and approve shop drawings.
• Attend site meetings as well as site and factory inspections.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously with flexibility and efficiency.
• Foster strong client relationships and build trust that supports repeat business opportunities.

Work Experience & Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Architecture, Interior Design, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in the hospitality industry, with proven ability to lead teams of Designers, FF&E Designers, and Draftsmen.
• Strong creativity and artistic flair.
• Thorough understanding of design principles, including composition, planning, materials, detailing, furniture, and fixtures.
• Ability to interpret specifications and layouts with a solid foundation in design phases.
• Strong knowledge of CAD standards, drawing preparation, and excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
• Experience managing projects across all design phases.
• Proficient in site work and progress monitoring.
• Strong freehand sketching ability and detailed design skills.
• Familiarity with hotel design programs, operators' design standards, and best practices.
• Passion for design and awareness of global design trends.
• Highly motivated, with strong communication, interpersonal, and observation skills, and proven team leadership ability.
• Responsible, independent, meticulous, and able to thrive under pressure in fast-paced environments.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, Adobe Photoshop; knowledge of 3ds Max and SketchUp will be an advantage.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage both creative and technical challenges.
